Kuda's 'Quartet' in the Cape Town Met
The R2-million WSB Cape Town Met will be run at Kenilworth on Saturday and Kuda insures four runners in the race. For those who might be superstitious and looking for signs, here’s a quartet that would send you smiling all the way to the payout queue!
The four Kuda-insured runners are Do It Again, Kommetdieding, Second Base and Puerto Manzano.
Do It Again is from the powerful Justin Snaith yard – who send out four runners –Bernard Fayd’Herbe’s mount has won the Vodacom Durban July twice but has yet to taste Met glory after three previous attempts.
Another Kuda-insured candidate is the “people’s champ”, Kommetdieding, who is the current pre-race favourite, a winner of the 2021 Vodacom July and who finished an eye-catching second in his latest start, the L’Ormarins Queens Plate.
Kuda also insures two of the three “out of town” visitors, both from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable. Second Base is currently at 35-1 in the betting, while Puerto Manzano is a 50-1 outsider, but both four-year-olds have top jockeys in Warren Kennedy and Keagan De Melo, respectively, and neither will be in Cape Town to simply look at the magnificent scenery.
The Cape Town Met is one of the jewels in the South African racing crown and the chief executive of Kuda, Wehann Smith – himself a passionate owner, and was most recently celebrating being part of Canford Cliffs’ first SA-bred winner, Body Electric on Sunday – says he’s proud that Kuda is playing a role in the race.
