When the worst happens and you need to make us of the cover you have taken out for you horse there is always that comfort that you have the cover, but for us at Kuda there is also certain admin that we need completed for each claim. In general for each and every claim we require the following:

  1. Notification of the condition/ procedure (as soon as possible)
  2. Completed claim form

Besides the above for each different claim there is further documentation required.

MORTALITY:

In the event your horse should pass away or need to be euthinaised (in humane grounds) the following is require for the claim:

  1. Notification within 24 hours of the horse having passed away
  2. Completed claim from
  3. Post Mortem Report
  4. Proof of vaccinations by a registered Vet in the case of death by AHS or Equine Flu

LIFE SAVING SURGERY

This covers the horse for emergency lifesaving surgery in hospital. It is very important to note that in order for a claim to fall under the Life Saving Surgery category the condition threatening the horse needs to be both emergency and lifesaving in nature and treated in hospital

  1. Notification that the horse has been admitted to hospital
  2. Claim form completed
  3. Vet report
  4. Invoices related to the surgery and aftercare

CRITICAL CARE CLAIM

This covers the horse for emergency lifesaving treatment in hospital. This covers the horse for emergency lifesaving treatment in hospital. It is very important to note that in order for a claim to fall under the Critical Care category the condition threatening the horse needs to be both emergency and lifesaving in nature as well as treated in hospital

  1. Notification that the horse has been admitted to hospital
  2. Claim form completed
  3. Vet report Invoices related to the care in hospital
  4. Invoices related to the care of the horse during his stay

MEDICAL CARE

This product covers a list of specified items. In essence we will only pay a medical care claim if the vet report submitted with the claim specifically diagnoses the horse with a condition specified on the list, there are no exceptions in this case. Document required are the following:

  1. Notification that the horse is ill
  2. Claim form completed
  3. Vet report specifically diagnosing the horse with a condition specified under the Medical care list of items
  4. Invoices related to the care of the horse during his treatment

MEDICAL AID COMPREHENSIVE AND SAVER

It is important to take note that there is a 3 month waiting period for this cover during which only emergency and accidental external injuries (wounds as an example) will be covered. After this period all the limits for Medical Aid kick in and you are also able to claim for the day to day items. Document required for claims

  1. In the case where your horse is admitted to hospital for a non-emergency (with an appointment) or if diagnostics are to be done at the yard we will require to give pre-authorisation or there will be a R2000 penalty imposed. In order to get the pre-authorisation we require a report from the vet specifically suggesting the visit and the reasons why they feel this is necessary, from this report we can authorise the visit
  2. Claim form
  3. Invoice
  4. Vet report only for Emergency, lifesaving procedures or we may request on in certain cases.

PERSONAL ACCIDENT

In cases where the person insured for Personal Accident cover is injured by the insured horse we require to be notified as soon as is possible. This will cover the person for severe injury that prevents them from doing their job for 2 or more months after the incident. The amount covered will be worked out according the the period off work and the severity of the injury. We will require:

  1. Claim form
  2. Doctors report indicating the severity of your injuries as well as the amount of time they suspect you to be off
  3. Follow up reports if the 2 month period Is reached at which point we will then begin to determine the amount to be paid for the claim

PUBLIC LIABILITY

This covers you should there be legal action taken against you by a third party should your horse damage property or injure a person not related to the horse (spectator for example). We will require:

  1. Claim form submitted
  2. Documents pertaining to the third party’s approach regarding the claim.
